This slab was milled locally from a tree that grew under tremendous natural stress—likely on a hillside or competing for light—which caused the grain to twist, swirl, and grow in highly irregular patterns. That environmental pressure produced a surface where the wood’s cellular structure reflects light from countless angles, creating an intense chatoyance (shimmer), wild movement, and a depth of character that just doesn’t exist in calmer, straight-grained wood.
In other words: this is the kind of chaotic, highly figured grain that only forms when nature pushes a tree to its limits. It’s extremely rare and absolutely mesmerizing.
