A mostly Southwest BMW purchased in Denver CO in 2010 and then NM until 2020. Recently replaced starter motor and rebuilt the dual Solex carburetors. But after sitting for the summer while replacing starter and ignition switch, the automatic transmission only goes into 2nd gear after hi-revs. The mechanic quoted $4500 to rebuild and replace the planetary gears along with another $1500 to drop and reinstall tranny. So, if someone has the skillset on the ZF-BW-65 transmission, this project could be for you.
Car starts up easily with new starter and has no problem in 1st and reverse. Just can't get into higher gear.
Mechanical history includes replacement motor ~2016 and AAMCO transmission rebuild in 2019, but here we are with a broken one again.
