This beautifully hand completed needlepoint scene is framed in a lovely gold, perfect condition frame, measuring 41 1/2” x 32 1/2” x 2 3/4”. The finished needlepoint measures 33 1/2” x 24 1/2”. The entire scene is hand sewn stitch by stitch in needlepoint with the detailed faces sewn in petit point. This rare piece was entered in the New York State Fair competition in the year 1859 and earned the silver engraved coin award as shown from the NYS Agricultural Society (NYSAS). It reads, ‘Awarded to Mrs. John Wilcox, for worsted embroid picture 1859’ on one side and the society’s emblem on the other. It was this NYSAS which organized the first NYS Fair in 1841 which has continued to this day.
