1892-1893 COLUMBIA EXPOSITION
CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS ACCORDION
HAND FAN.An accordion-style hand fan, which shows patriotic American flags with an image of Christopher Columbus in the middle of the flags. When open, the fan section opens to about 10" x 10", and with the handle it measures 14.5" in length. There is some light wear to the edges of the paper fan and the handle shows significant wear, but it has held together well. The Columbian Exposition was held to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus landing in the New World. However, instead of opening in 1892 (the actual anniversary) the fair opened one year later. It ran from May 1-October 31, 1893.
