This is a vintage wood (pine? and oak) doll bed with head board, foot board, side rails. The headboard has a grooved top and a double curved shape. A central piece of wood in the shape of an apple (at least to me) is connected to the top and bottom of the headboard. Two round posts are on either side of the apple (4 posts total). The footboard has a grooved top and sides. 4 posts connect the top and bottom. The side rails are grooved on the top and the outside. (The interior side is smooth.)

Originally, 3 wood slats ran from bottom of side rail to bottom of side rail, but this has been replaced (for the better) with a solid piece of hard board. It hads weight, stability, and options for use of the bed. The bed was re-finished circa 1970, and is in a dark stain. Structurally sound, the bed carries some of the nicks of use by a small child. No attempt was made to conceal these. The bed now has a piece of foam that rests on the hardboard, better to hold the doll in place. (Foam did not exist in 1953.) Other improvements are a cover for the foam, as well as a bedspread and pillow. Optional additions are a quilt and a choice of 2 afghans. Quilt and afghans each cost an additional $5.00.

Measurements: All are approximate: Height-9 1/2" (bottom of end post to top of end post). Width-14" (outer end post to outer end post). Length-24 1/4" (outer end post to outer end post). Headboard and footboard-12 3/8" wide (each). Headboard-1/4"thick. Headboard and footboard bottom piece-3/4" square. Siderails-1 3/4" wide and 22" long.

Interior measurements: 12 1/2" w X 22 1/2" l. Floor to top of the side rail-4 1/2" (height). Floor to top of the hardboard-2 3/4" (clearance under the bed). Top of the hardboard to top of the rail-1 3/4" (interior height). These measurements provide insight into the size of the interior compartment where the foam is laid AND where the doll and accessories fit!!!

Condition: Good (only because there are nicks from play use and passage of time). Bed is solid.
