This original (not a reproduction) map was issued as a supplement to Harper's Weekly, Number 858, June 7, 1873. Harper's Weekly was in existence from 1857 to 1916.
Printed on thin paper. It's in very good condition yet fragile due to age. One small tear at one of the folds. And rough along some of the edges.
Hard to find in this condition. Suitable for framing.
Overall size 32 3/4" wide x 23" tall.
Map is very detailed with an index to locate hundreds of churches, public buildings, hotels, etc.
Some of the highlights are Central Park. The proposed Brooklyn Bridge. The hospital, penitentiary, almshouses, workhouse, and lunatic asylum on Blackwells Island (now Roosevelt Island).
