Safe Place Responder training (Monroe County)

The Center for Youth Services is a local not-for-profit organization that provides many services to runaway and homeless youth in Monroe County. The Centers� mission is to provide services to youth on their terms. The Center provides free, voluntary services including individual/family counseling, emergency shelter, independent living, after school-based programs and street outreach. Most recently the Center partnered with National Safe Place and began a community initiative for youth in Monroe County that may be experiencing a crisis.

Safe Place is a program that exists in over 750 communities nation wide, including Buffalo and Niagara Falls. Here in Rochester, The Center for Youth is charged with coordinating the program and monitoring the safe place sites. The Center is looking for help from the community to keep this program going. In the Rochester area, all recreation centers, NET offices, YMCAs, and RTS buses, along with Tops Friendly Markets, McDonalds, and some privately owned businesses are trained and registered Safe Place sites. A youth in crisis can go to these Safe Place sites and ask an employee for help. The Safe Place site employees are trained to follow procedures that include a call to The Center for Youth. The Center will send 2 volunteer responders to the site to talk with the youth and get them help. We are looking for responders that are caring and enthusiastic about helping youth. To be a responder you must be at least 18 years of age and have access to a reliable vehicle. Additionally, you must have a valid driver�s license and required level of insurance. A thorough background check and all necessary paperwork must be completed prior to becoming a Safe Place responder. The Center for Youth will hold a training session on July 27 and July 29 from 6-9:00pm. You must register for the training session. Please call 585-473-2464 to register for the training.

Local fitness club is looking for physically fit women under the age of 30 to participate in a study on the effects of massage on cellulite and body contouring to offer a safer alternative to expensive surgery. The treatment is for those who are already close to their 'ideal' body weight, but just has a few areas they wish to refine or to re-shape. The purpose is to develop a treatment series that will produce the best results in the shortest amount of time before marketing and charging for the service. I am hoping to get together a large group to all cut and donate our hair to Locks of Love at the same time. If you aren't familiar with the non profit organization, here is a little background information:

WHAT IS LOCKS OF LOVE?

Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. We meet a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The prostheses we provide help to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to return a sense of self, confidence and normalcy to children suffering from hair loss by utilizing donated ponytails to provide the highest quality hair prosthetics to financially disadvantaged children. The children receive hair prostheses free of charge or on a sliding scale, based on financial need.

hi, i am currently homeless and have a car, tent, and a cat. i have been fairing just fine all spring/summer so far but frustration has come between me and my friend that was leting camp in their woods and they want me gone. so i am looking for anyone that has about a half acer that they can let me set up my tent and park for the next month untill my section 8 voucher is officaly ready and i can move into an apartment. bathroom. cooking and electric privlages would be nice just for the bare nessecitys of keeping my cell phone charged and recharging my flashlight. i have camping cooking equitment/ fire making abilitys, but refrigeration is hard. anyone with a electric cooler that they would let me use, or a camper/rv type refrigerator.... access to running water would be nice to help me keep clean.
i sometimes go to friends houses or to camp sites in the area but sleeping in the car has goten too hot most nights. if there is electricity i can also watch tv on my computer, i've got some cool gagets... but i am very concederate about using as little electricity as possible. it there is a way to meeter what electricity i do use, i would be willing to pay the bill. i love being outdoors and in nature, even once i get an apartment it will be hard for me to stay indoors for long. i would love it if someone has a cabin or something that would be able to be aproved as an apartment for year around living once i get the sect. 8 voucher. but i'm not worried about that at this second. i just need a place to park that is fairly private and if there is a shead or something i can use to unload stuff from my car to keep my gas mileage down when i'm out and about going to apointments during the day, that would be nice too. i would love to offer some money to anyone who can do this, but at this moment i'm strugling to keep auto insurance paid and the car on the road along with medical bills, phone bill and auto repairs.
i normaly travel from sodus point area to clifton springs/canandaigua to rochester areas.

The Autism Council of Rochester, Inc. is making a twin-size quilt to be auctioned as a fundraiser. If you can sew two quilt squares or more by August 1st, we would love your help! The quilt squares are 9 inches square, and we are asking volunteers to sew two squares each because this pattern requires alternating color designs (see photo). This is a wonderful project for mother/daughter teams, and anyone else who can make a quilt square! The Autism Council of Rochester provides services for youth and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder or other related developmental disabilities. We help individuals meet their personal goals of attending college, living independently, and learning job skills for employment. We also provide family support services and professional education about autism for teachers and medical service providers. More than 1 out of 150 children are born with autism, and disabled individuals need help transitioning to adulthood. Please consider helping us to help others.

The Autism Council Of Rochester will be planting 50 trees in October to symbolize the 50 new families we are providing services for this year.We have over 50 seedlings that need to be watered every other day while they establish roots. If you love gardening and have space for less than 12 sq. ft. of potted baby trees, WE NEED YOUR HELP!!! We need someone who can commit to watering them frequently until October when we will be planting them in public parks.You will be helping the environment, our local non-profit organization and the public parks. there is a lot of work to go into starting a christian camp. But that is what i have been called to do. yet i have very little idea how to do it and have no idea how to fund it.
here is just a sample of what is involved in a christian camp:
The people who lead Christian camps and conferences are unique in their occupations and lifestyles. Their business is complex and their involvement can be totally consuming. To operate a summer or year-round Christian camp or conference is to operate a church, hotel, restaurant, bank, theater, retail outlet, day-care facility, recreational park, aquatics center, personnel agency, counseling service, medical office, construction company, highway department, and on and on.
this camp will also include wilderness survival and horses.
the land we are looking at is $350,000.00 and is well worth it's price. we need fund raisers. we need donaters. we need suport from all the local christian churches and denominations.
christian = God, Jesus, holy spirit. saved by grace and not by works.
the camp will also include teaching basics of organic gardening and healthy living and possibly alternative medicine. returning to the roots of humanity and nature and do away with materialistic society and the things that distract us from our relationship with Jesus. holistic lifestyle is incoraged.

Volunteers of America of Western NY is looking for a person with some daytime availability to work in our warehouse at 89 Canal St. Rochester NY 14608 and help with the online book-selling operation. Someone who loves books, recognizes popular authors, and is organized. You would sort through donated books and media and find the best ones to sell online or in the stores

This is a volunteer job with a lot of flexibility; you could set your own hours, as long as they were scheduled on weekdays between 9:00 and 5:00 Tuesday through Saturday.
