Sales Engineer
As a Sales Engineer you will be responsible for managing the pre-sales process for enterprise and service provider account opportunities in Canada, Latin America and Asia Pacific. You will also have responsibility within this territory for building relationships and new opportunities with Network Equipment Provider (NEP) partners.
You will partner with the Director of International Sales & Alliances based in Toronto and work closely with the Vice President of International Sales & Business Development to drive sales efforts and close business. As a key member of a nimble and innovative field sales team you will be working on new business opportunities and breaking into new geographies for the company. Your efforts on these initiatives will be critical to ensure the fulfillment of AlterPoint’s strategic goals and expanded worldwide presence.
Duties and Responsibilities
Successful candidates will possess a unique blend of technical, commercial, and pre-sales savvy, combined with project management skills, and the ability to grasp the big-picture and the company’s vision. Must be able to navigate large, complex sales situations and turn big-picture vision into reality. Preview experience engaging with enterprise prospects, technology partners and channel partners is a must. We seek candidates who enjoy pursuing and closing deals with companies in the medium-to-very large enterprise and service provider space. The ability to execute and work well as a member of a small, innovative team is critical, as is the ability to think strategically and execute tactically. Candidates should possess initiative, and drive to deliver results with minimal supervision. Other responsibilities include:
• Developing relationships with customers to address identified needs, via integrated technical solutions with AlterPoint products
• Deliver customer presentations and provide installation assistance
• Manage the technical aspects of the entire sales process
• Work closely with the AlterPoint Professional Services and Product Management teams to support sales objectives.
• Communicate customer requirements efficiently to AlterPoint
Qualifications and Technology Experience
• 5+ years experience in sales engineering with a focus on software solutions
• Prior experience providing pre-sales technical support to enterprise and service provider accounts
• Prior international experience a plus
• Excellent project management skills
• Previous experience working with channel partners in a pre-sales capacity required
• Experience with Perl is a must
• Working knowledge of networking protocols such as MPLS, IS-IS, BGP, and OSPF Working knowledge of TCP/IP, Routers, Switches, Firewalls, Disaster Recovery
• Experience with MySQL, Microsoft SQL, or Oracle 10 strongly preferred
• Experience with Open Source products desired
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Approximately 40% travel, mostly in the US and Canada, with occasional travel to Latin America and Asia Pacific
