Expanded Day Educator (Rochester, NY)
Under the direct supervision of the Lead Expanded Day Educator, the Expanded Day Educator will be responsible for the delivery of enrichment activities at the Douglass Campus (Northeast/Northwest College Prep). The Educator will facilitate workshops during designated enrichment periods for students in 7th -- 12th grades focusing on STEM, college and career readiness, financial literacy, Arts and culture, and health and wellness. The Educator must be able to develop lesson plans and effectively communicate with a team of other educators, school and agency personnel and other stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Facilitate daily, 45-minute enrichment sessions for six groups (15 youth per group) during the school day in a classroom setting.
Possess good classroom management skills.
Maintain an open line of communication with school-based staff and faculty.
Develop, lead, implement and monitor engaging and hands-on enrichment modules for assigned groups that include components related to leadership and character development, health and fitness, artistic/cultural development, college/vocational preparation, civic engagement/community service and personal/social development.
Track and monitor daily attendance for enrolled youth in groups.
Utilize knowledge and skills to promote cooperative learning skills.
Participate in the recruitment, enrollment and selection of eligible youth for participation in after school program activities.
Maintains a file for each assigned student to your group and report out on individual progress.
Build and maintain positive parent relationships; record and track parent involvement (home visits, volunteering, phone calls, etc.).
Identify and prepare instructional materials required for the classroom curriculum.
Provide conflict resolution techniques and/or negotiation strategies based on RCSD guidelines.
Regularly attend professional development workshops, training and conferences to increase content area competencies.
Carries out other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor and school administration.
Associate's Degree in Childhood Education, Social Work, Recreation or a related field with no additional experience required
High School diploma or its equivalent AND two years direct experience working with youth in a school based or after school program setting.
A successful candidate must receive clearance through an employee background fingerprint Criminal History Review, as well as the NYS TEACH system registry. Certification in CPR/First Aid is highly desired as is a valid driver's license (including ability to be cleared via a driving background check) and access to reliable transportation.
