Pharmacy Technician - Medicine Shoppe International (LeRoy)
The pharmacy technician assists the pharmacist in all operational activities of the pharmacy in order to optimize customer satisfaction and maximize profitability.
Customer Relations:
* Greet all customers in a friendly, welcoming manner
* Complete prescription information as needed (customer address, date of birth, insurance information, allergy information, etc.)
* Emphasize generic savings on both prescription products and brand label over the counter (OTC) products to customer, if applicable
Telephone:
* Answer telephone within three rings
* Accept refill orders and other requests from customers
* Call insurance companies to resolve 3rd party problems
* Call physicians to request renewals
* Call Cardinal Health Distribution about status of order, shorts, errors, and backordered items, as needed
* Call other pharmacies to borrow medication, if needed
* Call other pharmacies for price quotes, comparisons
Computer and Prescription Filling:
* Enter data for new and refill prescriptions
* Add new customers, drugs, physicians, etc.
* Make sure adjudicated prescriptions are approved and paid above acquisition cost. If they are paid below acquisition or at usual and customary price (U & C), inform Pharmacist Manager
* Count and label prescriptions properly for pharmacist approval
* Coordinate delivery of prescriptions. Label as Pickup, Delivery, or Mail and * Cash, Credit Card, or Private Charge
* Assist pharmacist with compounding, as needed
Drug Orders and Inventory:
* Accumulate information on prescription drugs needed, place, and transmit orders daily to Cardinal Health Distribution
* Review OTC shelves daily to reorder needed items
* Check in drug order against invoices received
* Sticker drugs and put drugs on shelves, rotating stock
* Check for shorted or backordered items
* Check with Pharmacist on backordered items to see if another source needs to be found (i.e. borrow from another pharmacy)
* Walk pharmacy shelves every three months checking for overstock or outdates
* Return full, unopened packages purchased in last six months with seven months of dating left to Cardinal Health Distribution
* Transmit and package credit orders as needed
* Match credit invoices to credit authorization forms when received. Call Cardinal Health Distribution with any discrepancies
* Return partials or outdates to designated vendor
Marketing:
* Support the marketing programs and direction
* Send birthday and thank you cards to customers
Accounting:
* Complete Weekly Revenue/Cash Report daily
* Count down register at end of day to $100.00
* Run tape on checks
* Give money and checks to pharmacist to prepare bank deposit
* Conduct manual batch settlement of credit card machine (if not automated nightly settlement)
* Answer questions on discrepancies of over/short amounts
* Ring in cash and credit card transactions as cash
* Ring in personal charge transactions as charge
* Ring in 3rd party end of day report amounts due as charge
* Ring in personal charge and 3rd party payments as ROA (Received on Account)
* Reconcile 3rd party claims as they are received
* Record any formulary differences, transaction fees, or online fees as needed.
Other Responsibilities:
* Check answering machine every morning for messages
* Check e-mail and fax several times daily for refill request or communications
* Keep register counter clean, neat, stocked properly, and organized
* Keep pharmacy counter clean, neat, stocked properly, and organized
* Restock pharmacy supplies as needed, including vials, bottles, bags, and tape
* Clean pharmacy shelves as needed
* Vacuum and remove trash daily
* Restock supplies of fax paper, copy paper, and labels as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
* Pharmacy Technician experience preferred
* High school diploma or equivalent
* College courses desirable but not required
* May require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs.)
* Requires walking and standing for long periods of time
* Must be punctual and dependable; reports to work as scheduled
* Maintains neat and professional well groomed appearance
* Works cooperatively with staff
* Maintains strict confidentiality of patient, visitor, and employee information
