Assigns ICD-9 CM standard codes and abstracts to the OASIS and 485 documents for reimbursement purposes. Provides feedback and consultation on ICD-9 CM standard codes to visiting and in-house staff.
Qualifications: For level one of this job, minimum of an AAS degree in Health Information Management or related field is required with RHIT, and/or Home Care Specialist Certification highly preferred. Strong knowledge of ICD-9 CM standard codes and abstracts, medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology is required. Must possess keyboarding skills and be computer literate. Must maintain high levels of patient and/or client confidentiality, in line with HIPPA rules and regulations. Good communication skills are essential. It is expected that level I Home Care Coding Specialists employed at Lifetime Care will strive to pass the RHIT certification exam within one year of employment. In order to be eligible for consideration for employment at level II, employee must have minimum AAS in Health Information Management (Bachelor’s degree preferred) as well as both RHIT and Homecare Coding Certifications, and at least one year of home care coding work experience.
