POSITION DESCRIPTION
ASSISTANT MANAGER
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
The Assistant Manager is responsible for directing the work of the crew and employees and for managing shifts; operating and maintaining the store to maximize profitability and customer satisfaction.
WORK WEEK
An Assistant Manager’s work week will be five days. The days of the week will be determined by the company. An example of the hours worked are as follows:
· Sunday 3pm until 1am
· Monday off
· Tuesday off
· Wednesday 4pm until 1am
· Thursday 11am until 9pm
· Friday 8am until 2pm
· Saturday 11a until 9p
The above schedule is meant to be representative of a work week. It may vary depending on the store needs and/or assigned management team.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Sales and Profits
1. Builds sales by promoting customer satisfaction
2. Manages costs by communicating and monitoring prep and production levels by the crew
3. Tracks waste levels using established procedures
4. Manages labor costs by evaluating labor needs against projected sales during the shift
Staffing
1. Develops crew members to meet QSC standards and procedures
2. Uses shift plan (position chart) to organize and manage crew for the shift
3. Interviews crew to ensure adequate coverage; makes recommendations to Head Manager
4. Monitors crew turnover rate and causes; makes recommendations regarding hiring and firing to Head Manager on a regular basis.
Quality
1. Monitors product quality during shift by talking with customers during walk-throughs and when working off line
2. Monitors product quality by managing crew performance and providing specific feedback
Service
1. Takes service times and determines efficiency
2. Trains crew to respond promptly to customer needs
3. Trains crew in customer courtesy
4. Evaluates slow points and takes corrective action
5. Manages shift to meet service goals and customer satisfaction
Cleanliness
1. Trains crew to maintain store cleanliness during shift
2. Follows, manages, and evaluates store cleaning plan; reports status to Head Manager
Training
1. Assists co-manager in training crew in new products
2. Assists co-manager in executing the Crew Orientation and Training process
3. Assists co-manager in training new crew in position skills and to meet company standards
4. Cross-trains crew as necessary for efficient coverage of positions during shifts
5. Conducts specific training to resolve problems(e. g., food cost)
6. Recommends high performing crew to Head Manager as potential Crew Leaders or Assistant Managers.
Controls
1. Follows flowcharts, prep, and “build-to” charts
2. Monitors inventory levels to ensure product availability; orders products
3. Manages security of cash, product, and equipment during shifts
4. Follows store plan set by Head Manager
5. Follows store priorities set by Head Manager
6. Identifies and solves problems that affect sales and profit
7. Manages shift to QSC level of 80% or better
Policies and Procedures
1. Follows procedures outlined in Operational Procedures Manual
2. Maintains safe working conditions in the store as outlined in company policies and procedures
3. Follow company policy for cash control
4. Reports accidents promptly and accurately
5. Follows procedures for resolving operational problems indicated by Health Department Inspectors
6. Knows register procedures for discounts and promotions
7. Manages shifts effectively using “Managing Better Shifts (MBS)” or similar checklist
Administration
1. Performs administrative duties as required by Head Manager
Maintenance
1. Follows guidelines of the Preventative Maintenance Program
2. Follows procedures for reporting maintenance problems
Employee Relations
1. Uses consistent practices in managing performance problems with crew
2. Manages crew in a manner that maximizes retention
3. Follows grievance process
4. Follows store plan to reduce crew turnover
Performance Management
1. Takes appropriate corrective action in response to performance problems of crew; notifies Head Manager

Education: College degree or equivalent experience in operations
